Self-Nominations Now Accepted for May Elections
Key Executive Positions on School Council
Are you thinking about joining School Council next year? School Council needs your help! Elections in May are for key positions on the Executive. To nominate yourself, pick up a nomination form in the school office.
Other roles will be posted in September, for self-nominations and elections that month.
Here is a brief overview of the key positions for May elections:
Chair or Co-Chairs - Co-chairs act as spokespersons for the School Council. Co-chairs provide leadership and guidance to the Executive Committee and liaise with the Principal and Vice Principal on School Council related school matters. Responsibilities also include overseeing School Council initiatives and providing guidance and support to sub-committees, chairing School Council meetings (minimum of four per a year) including leading the development of meeting agendas, and representing School Council at various external TDSB meetings.
Treasurer - The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining the School Council financial records including issuing cheques, making bank deposits, preparing financial statements (including annual statement to TDSB) and bank account reconciliation. The Treasurer is a signatory on the bank account. The Treasurer also provides administrative support to School Council fundraising endeavours. Key candidate requirements include comfort with and basic understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
Secretary - The secretary attends and takes minutes at each School Council meeting. The secretary prepares the minutes for the subsequent School Council meeting for review.
QSP Coordinators - The QSP Coordinators are responsible for the annual QSP magazine fundraiser for the school, which provides key funding for Bowmore student enrichment activities such as artists and scientists in the classroom. The Coordinators are responsible for the distribution and collection of all QSP related materials including forms, payments. The role is also responsible for awarding sale-related prizes to classrooms and children.

Bowmore School Council has arranged for Toronto Public Health to run their “At Home Alone” workshop at Bowmore School. This will be a great way to get ready for the summer if you are considering starting to let your child spend some time at home alone.
A free, two-hour interactive workshop for parents and their 10 – 14 year old child. The parent and child will work together during the session to develop a personal safety and injury prevention plan to meet their unique family needs.
REGISTER NOW - We are also offering this opportunity to our neighbouring schools, and space is limited.
Registration forms are also available in the School office.
